The implementation of the projects of the previously planned projects is progressing on schedule. Health through the Recovery Fund, according to Marios Themistocleous.

Talking to ERTNEWS, the Deputy Minister of Health stressed that already about 50% of the projects have been completed, while within the next three months all those underway in this programme are expected to be delivered. At the same time, he noted that even the most complex infrastructure projects will be completed by August 2026.

As he explained, the initial plan includes the renovation of 86 Emergency Departments and 157 Health Centres, clarifying that the projects planned from the start will be implemented as planned. Those that were deemed technically impossible to complete within the planned timeframe were not cancelled, but were transferred to other funding instruments, such as the NSRF or public funding.

The deputy minister also pointed out that the Ministry of Health was among the first ministries in absorption of resources from the Recovery Fund, which – he said – confirms the effectiveness of the planning.

In the area of strengthening the National Health System (NHS), announced that within this week or early next week at the latest, some 850 permanent doctor positions will be advertised for hospitals across the country.

He expressed optimism for increased participation, noting that recent announcements have recorded significant interest, with about 5 to 6 candidates per position in Attica, levels that – he said – point to the period before the financial crisis.

Finally, he revealed that the overall planning until the end of the year foresees 5,000 permanent recruitments and 3.000 permanent positions, bringing the total to 8,000 new positions, with the aim of strengthening the overall public health system.
