The Amilia Kouya presents at Muses in Kipseli the exhibition by Maria Anastasiou entitled “The memory of matter and its transformations”.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on Thursday 23 April at 19:00 – 22:00.

In her new exhibition, the painter presents works of large and small dimensions, with new compositions freed from the shackles of reality and aiming to express her own completely personal artistic vision.

The works move in the field of abstract painting, where matter, gesture and texture take a leading role. They do not narrate the world, but imply, deconstruct and reconstruct it. Through layers, wear and tear and gestural interventions, works are created that function more as traces of experience than as images.

The materials she uses (sand, woods, acrylics, paper) and the way she processes them lead to their transformation and morphing on canvas or paper into painted landscapes that allow her to transform a reality that repels her into a world of conquered beauty.

Her color palette, dominated mainly by earthy colors (gray, brown, black), but also more intense ones (red, yellow, blue), helps her to communicate her work, achieved with time and effort, in the way she wants to, without succumbing to moribund fashions and influences, beyond her almost priestly devotion to her art.

In the embrace of matter and colour, particularly important to her work are the shapes and forms that stand out in her paintings and mark her own subtle, deeply emotional and spiritual involvement in the events of her time (war, refugeeism, environmental destruction), as an act of artistic responsibility towards a declining world. – Konstantinos Kaplis
