Greece and specifically Santorini remains one of the world’s leading destinations.
The strong potential of Greece in the North American market, which is of strategic importance for Greek tourism, was confirmed for yet another year at the prestigious Leisure Lifestyle Awards 2026 of the American travel magazine Global Traveler, according to a statement by the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT).
Greece, for the fifth consecutive time, took first place among international destinations in the category “Best Historical Attractions” (Best Historical Attractions, International), while Santorini won the title of “Best Island in Europe”(Best Island in Europe)for the thirteenth consecutive year.
According to the same statement, this double distinction further strengthens Greece’s position as a leading global destination, as it highlights the high quality of the tourism experiences provided, itsunique historical and cultural richness and the timeless appeal and international recognition of the Greek tourism product.
These awards are awarded after a vote by Global Traveler readers, which gives them special significance as they directly reflect the experience and evaluation of the international travel public. Voting for this year’s awards was conducted from 1 August 2025 to 31 January 2026, with thousands of participants indicating their preferences in a variety of leisure, luxury and lifestyle travel categories.
The 14th Leisure Lifestyle Awards ceremony took place on Monday, April 20, 2026 in Miami, in the presence of key representatives of the international tourism industry, while the Greek awards were received by the head of the North American EOT Office, Konstantinos Harokopos.
