“The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Athens, positively welcomes the announcements of the government on the measures that support the real economy and especially businesses, which continue to operate in an environment of increased costs, limited liquidity and international uncertainty.”
This was noted by the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Giannis Bratis, following the announcement by the prime minister of the new package of economic support measures and their specification by the government’s economic staff.
As Mr Bratakos said in his statement, “The extension of the diesel subsidy, continuation of support to the primary sector, but especially the interventions to facilitate debt settlement, are moving in the right direction. Particularly important are the provisions on the extension of the out-of-court mechanism, the new possibility of 72 instalments and the lifting of bank account freezes under certain conditions, as they can provide real relief to thousands of professionals and businesses.
We must also point out that the market needs even more stable, more horizontal and more permanent solutions, in addition to temporary relief. Businesses are demanding an environment that supports their sustainability, competitiveness and growth prospects on an ongoing basis.
To this end, the next step should be to further reduce non-wage costs, improve access to finance, accelerate private debt arrangements and establish a more workable framework for SMEs. In this direction, EVEA’s request remains the reinstatement of the regulation of overdue debts to the state in 120 instalments, in order to support the liquidity and growth prospects of viable businesses.
The EBEA will continue to intervene institutionally, with specific proposals, so that every fiscal space created is translated into a substantial strengthening of entrepreneurship, employment and productive Greece.”
