The full support of France in Cyprus was expressed by Emanuel Macron, during meeting with Nikos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace in Lekosia.
The visit, the first official visit of a French President to the country, was described as historic by Mr. Christodoulides, who underlined that it is a strong signal of the dynamics and depth of the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
“True friends are seen in difficult times and you have proved it in practice“, the Cypriot President said, thanking France for its support to the efforts to resume the Cyprus talks on the basis of the principles of the European Union.
For his part, Emanuel Macron spoke of “a strategically balanced cooperation“, noting that “we are at the highest level of cooperation between us”.
He stressed that France remains in solidarity with Cyprus, describing his visit as a natural continuation of the close cooperation between Athens and Paris in the wider region.
At the same time, he congratulated the Cypriot President for the initiative to convene an informal meeting of EU heads of state, with the participation of leaders from the Middle East and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
