Socrates Famellos can’t even seem to control his MPs, who one by one look to Alexis Tsipras.
A new mini-crisis has been created in Syriza by the repeated statements by MPs that they are ready to leave the party and follow Alexis Tsipras. First Symeon Kedikoglou and then Andreas Panagiotopoulos within hours said they were ready to resign and join the former prime minister’s party in the making.
Of course, Socrates Famellos did not sit on his hands and despite what he says publicly about the need to converge with Alexis Tsipras and create a progressive front, he was taking calls to… to seek explanations and statements of reparation from his MPs.
Andreas Panagiotopoulos did indeed a few hours later partially reconsider what he said. However, the other Syriza MP reportedly did not even… respond to Socrates Famellos.
Of course, for the president of Syriza it is not unprecedented for his MPs not to pick up the phone. The same has been happening for many months with Nina Kasimatis, who has left in… “read” Socrates Famello, as she has no communication with him and is looking towards PASOK.
But also the now independent MEP, Nikos Pappas, who was brought by Alexis Tsipras to Syriza and deleted overnight, had no contact with Socrates Famellos.
Commonly, Socrates Famellos seems unable to control his parliamentary group, at the same time that Alexis Tsipras is preparing to take away a dozen MPs and Pavlos Polakis the leadership of Syriza.
