A serious incident involving shots was reported in the early hours of the morning in the area of Panagia Faneromeni in Thessaloniki.
According to ERT, the incident occurred at around 01:00 on a narrow street in the area, when a group of three to four people attacked a man, aged about 30. During the attack, and while there was tension and commotion, bystanders became aware of what was happening, with a woman coming out of her house and calling for help.
Police were immediately alerted, but before they arrived, the offenders shot the victim, wounding him in the leg, in the thigh area. The wound is said to be penetrating.
An ambulance rushed to the scene and transported the injured man to Papageorgiou Hospital, where he is being treated out of danger. According to reports, the man is a foreigner, and his statement is expected to be taken in order to clarify the circumstances of the attack.
The attackers fled and are being sought by authorities, with investigations in full swing.
Residents in the area have spoken of intense upheaval, noting that although the spot is close to the city centre, this particular alleyway is relatively isolated.
The cause of the attack remains unknown so far, with authorities examining all possibilities, including a possible personal dispute between the people involved. More developments are expected later in the day.
