Candidate for the Best MEP award in the “Sustainable Tourism” category of The Parliament Magazine, has been selected as the leader of the NWD and chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism, Eliza Vozemberg-Vryonidi.

This is “an important recognition for the New Democracy Eurogroup”, according to a statement. Ms. Wozemberg was nominated by the magazine as a candidate in the “Sustainable Tourism” category, which for the first time is included as a separate category in this competition to highlight MEPs with notable parliamentary activity in this area.

After the announcement of the nominations, Ms. Wozemberg was particularly pleased, saying that the decision acknowledged her continuous presence and action in the European Parliament’s Special Working Party on Tourism, which aims to promote European tourism policy.

“In particular, this decision recognises the important contribution of Ms. Vozemberg, who with a personal letter to the President of the Commission in the summer of 2024 at the request of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, requested and achieved the inclusion of tourism – for the first time – in a separate portfolio of the European Commission, under the responsibility of the Greek Commissioner, Apostolos Tzitzikostas,” the statement said.

Along with her fellow MEPs Nikolina Brnjac, former Croatian Minister of Tourism and Daniel Attard, MEP from Malta and member of the Tourism Working Group, Ms. Wozemberg will compete for the award at a special award ceremony to be held on June 30 in Brussels.
