The Minister of Shipping has mobilised prosecuting authorities following complaints of unauthorised filling in a protected area Natura of Oropos.
Instant legal proceedings were launched on the orders of the Minister of Shipping, Vassilis Kikilias, in order to investigate the case of illegal interference in Oropos.
Following a branded complaint of fouling in the marine area of Alykes, which belongs to the Natura network, the minister announced the initiation of a preliminary investigation by the Coast Guard and the notification of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the official briefing, illegal dredging of significant dimensions was detected at the site, extending 60 metres to the seaward side.
The mobilisation of the authorities is universal, as the Land Registry and the local Police Department have already been involved to hold them accountable.
In his message, Vassilis Kikilias clarified the actions being taken:
“On the occasion of a complaint by a private individual and publications about illegal execution of a project in the marine area of the Port Department of Oropou (Alykes area), an embankment of 60m x 8m dimensions was found on the sea side. The competent Public Prosecutor’s Office was informed and a preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Port Authority. At the same time, the Real Estate Service and the Oropou Police Station were informed. For the incident was ordered and the conduct of an administrative examination under oath.
