The leadership of the Ministry of Health is launching a radical overhaul of the EKAB and the immediate armouring of its staff.

Significant upgrade of the operational capabilities of the ECAB announced from the podium of the Bouli the Adonis Georgiades, setting the timetable for the arrival of dozens of new vehicles.

In response to a topical question, the Health Minister disclosed that at the beginning of 2027, the integration of 255 new ambulances will begin, which is the largest procurement ever for the organisation through the Ministry of Civil Protection.

According to Georgiadis, the move will ensure a extremely modern fleet, drastically improving the average age of the vehicles compared to the previous decade.

Alongside equipment, the ministry is also moving to strengthen human resources, with an emphasis on the Volos and Larissa regions.

As part of the briefing, the minister presented the following data:

  • Publication 258 permanent positions for ambulance crews (sector ΔE).
  • Opening of approximately 600 auxiliary posts to immediately cover needs.
  • Special care for Thessaly, with new staff in Volos and Larissa.

I don’t remember ever before that so many permanent staff positions have been advertised at the same time in the EHIC. We have opened up about six hundred auxiliary positions and two hundred and fifty-eight we have advertised permanent positions. We are not indifferent to the EHIC,” Georgiades said, rejecting criticisms of inaction and underlining the government’s commitment to support public health.
