The US is considering an Iranian proposal to open the Hormuz Strait and delay the nuclear program, with unwavering demands from Donald Trump.
At a time of heightened geopolitical tension in Middle East, the diplomatic backstage between Washington and Tehran appears to be entering a new phase, as the US administration considers an Iranian proposal that could affect critical balances in the region. The focus is on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s controversial nuclear program, with President Donald Trump insisting on tough and unyielding demands, while the spokesperson for White House Caroline Levitt avoided revealing details about the consultations, leaving open the possibility of developments that could determine the course of the two countries’ relations.
US President Donald Trump today discussed a new Iranian proposal to end the war with his top national security advisers, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said.
Trump’s demands
In response to questions from reporters, Levitt expressed no opinion on the proposal, under which the Strait of Hormuz would be opened and the discussion of Iran’s nuclear program would be postponed until later. But he said Trump’s demands remain the same.
The U.S. president wants to open Hormuz and have Iran deliver its enriched uranium.
“I wouldn’t say they’re considering it. I would only say that there was a discussion this morning that I don’t want to talk about. You’ll hear it directly from the president, I’m sure,” he added.
