The operation that has been set up to deconstruct the Justice by direct attacks on its officials is a danger to Democracy.

What is now happening to judicial officials is beyond the pale. On the one hand, political leaders are suing and targeting judicial officials (see the Tempi trial and others) and on the other hand they are lashing out at those who make decisions that are not to the liking of party leaders and their entourage.

The attack on the leadership of the Supreme Court and the… blizzard of posts and publications that followed is nothing but a direct shot at the judiciary and one could say a veiled threat in the form of a warning to judicial officials.

The celebration that started with the beating and continued with the OPEKEP is being continued in any way possible by the opposition parties who are now operating on the basis of “the end justifies the means”. In fact, at the time when they are accusing the government and the ruling party of attacking the judiciary, the opposition parties appear to be attempting to completely deconstruct it.

The country is experiencing a scenario where on the one hand the European Public Prosecutor who (pre)judges and politicizes is praised and on the other hand all members of the judiciary are being lambasted as acting and subservient to the government unless the decisions they take are liked by the opposition.

The outstretched finger to the leadership of the Supreme Court from the side of Harilaou Trikoupis – in the first instance – and from the other parties – in the second – is nothing but the most extreme targeting of judges and prosecutors in a way that goes beyond the pale. Personalities are openly attacked with a toxicity reminiscent of other times.

Neo-Aurianism has made its appearance and populism is trying to show its teeth again, with the institutions as its first target. They are throwing blood in the arena and the Internet swamp, they are looking for squares of neo-anarchists to set up hangings and seeking a solution to their existential problems through destabilisation.
