Thick fumes from tyres burning at a former factory in Patras have flooded the atmosphere with 112 having sounded.
A 22 firefighters with six vehicles and a team of rescue teams are operating at the scene, although the fire service says no residences are threatened. Municipal water trucks have been rushed to the scene.
Specifically, the fire broke out on Saturday afternoon (2/5) in an outdoor area of a former tire factory in the Lefka area of Patras. Dense black smoke emanating from the burning tires has blanketed the area.
Around 20:00 a message was sent from “112” about dangerous fumes. Residents in the area are advised to stay indoors and close windows, and should follow the instructions of the authorities.
