Kostas Karagounis presented the new information system as a key digital innovation for protection of workers in the country.

A pioneering technological infrastructure for the supervision of working conditions is about to be implemented by the government, according to statements by the deputy minister of labour.

Speaking to ERT, Mr. Karagounis stressed the importance of the Integrated Information System “HERIDANOS”, which is expected to be a powerful weapon in the effort to ensure health and safety of employees.

Mr Karagounis explained that HIRIDANOS will reduce bureaucracy and every company will be able to have the data for effective monitoring and prevention of occupational risks. “We will have real knowledge of how businesses operate and what actions they are taking to ensure the health and safety of workers,” he said.

At the same time, the Deputy Minister of Labour noted that, for the first time, a clear and binding obligation to report occupational diseases within five days of diagnosis is established.

In response to a question on the PASOK proposal for a 32-hour or 35-hour working period, Karagounis replied that, “when proposals are submitted, there must be seriousness and they must not be made for reasons of populism.”
