“For purely precautionary reasons, the Greek passenger on board the cruise ship MV Hondius, on which cases of hantavirus had appeared, has been placed in isolation and under observation at Attikon.
According to the initial medical report, the 70-year-old man is not showing any symptoms related to the disease.
Doctors at Attikon hospital in collaboration with EODY are reportedly monitoring the situation in accordance with prescribed public health protocols.
A detailed medical bulletin reads as follows:
“A passenger of a cruise ship, in which cases of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome occurred, for purely precautionary reasons and in accordance with current international health guidelines, was transferred by the ambulance and has been placed in preventive isolation and monitoring at Attikon.
The citizen does not present any symptoms related to the disease.
The measure is applied exclusively in the context of surveillance and prevention, with no confirmed infection or indication of active disease.
The responsible physicians at Attikon PNG in collaboration with EODY are monitoring the situation in accordance with the prescribed public health protocols.”
The Greek passenger first arrived by Dutch aircraft at Edhoven Airport in the Netherlands and from there he boarded a special Air Force flight to the military airport of Elefsina. He was transferred by ambulance to the Attikon hospital, where he will remain in quarantine for 45 days.
