The resignationofof Zoe Konstantopoulou is being considered by the Ethics Committee of Parliament with the positive vote of the members of the New Democracy Party and after an episodic meeting.

It is recalled that against the President of the Electoral Alliance for Freedom, 5 documents c different cases were recently forwarded to the Parliament. Coming to the committee on ethics, she avoided the explanations and denounced the procedure, claiming that she was not given the time required by the Rules of Procedure to study the files concerning her. In this context, it filed a request for exemption of the chairman of the Commission, Giorgos Georgantas, but this was not accepted (no party except for the Pλεύsi party voted in favour). The opposition, however, supported Konstantopoulou’s request to postpone the procedure and give more time.

On the other hand, New Democracy proposed to split the cases between the two that have been in Parliament for a long time (complaint by Georgiades and judicial officials) and the three that came last Tuesday (they got an extension of the debate for next Monday). Eventually, the opposition withdrew from the vote claiming that it did not wish to legitimise the process, resulting in the meeting ending with a vote in which only members of the New Democracy participated.

With regard to the two casesfor which there was a decision and recommendation of the Ethics Committee, the plenary will be called next Tuesday to take a decision by nominal vote, while for the other 3, at a later time.
