Stavros Kalafatis analyses government interventions on accuracy, wages, housing, growth and artificial intelligence aimed at supporting society.
At a period when accuracy, the housing problem and purchasing pressure dominate the daily lives of citizens, Stavros Kalafatis presents the government plan for the economy, emphasizing on increasing incomes, reducing unemployment, supporting vulnerable households and creating a new production model based on innovation and artificial intelligence. In his interview with “Eleftheros Typos”, the Deputy Minister of Development defends the government’s economic policy, arguing that fiscal stability allows targeted social interventions, while at the same time he sends a political message in view of the developments in the New Democracy and the road to the 2027 elections.
“Addressing the cost of living and strengthening income, especially for the most vulnerable, is a non-negotiable priority for the government. The positive course of the economy and the prudent fiscal management allow us to have the necessary “cushions” for targeted interventions, without compromising economic stability,” stresses Deputy Minister of Development, Stavros Kalafatis in an interview with the newspaper “Free Press”.
We stay next to the citizen with actions
And adds: “We stay next to the citizen with actions: the average wage has been boosted by 30.3%, the minimum wage by 41.5%, while unemployment has dropped from 18% to 7.7% with 563,000 of our fellow citizens having put an income in their homes. At the same time, we are implementing specific actions to ensure affordable housing, responding to the modern needs of society. Our main concern remains that the dividend of growth is returned fairly to society, substantially improving the daily life and well-being of many.”
Referring to the Congress of New Democracy, Kalafatis stresses that: “The strongest message to send out is that the country needs political stability, consistency and boldness in major changes. In a period of international turbulence and uncertainty, our country cannot return to either populism or immobility. At the same time”, as he points out, “our congress, with the vision for Greece 2030 as its central axis, is the beginning of a new victorious start that will lead us to the next elections in 2027. Political continuity, led by our Prime Minister and President Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is a guarantee for stable growth and social progress. We continue to move forward, with a plan, seriousness and efficiency,” he stresses.
In response to “the concerted attack of scandal by the opposition,” Kalafatis said: “The answer to scandalology can be neither shouting nor toxicity. It is the continuation of our work with tangible results in the daily life of the citizen. The more the government solves problems, the weaker the attempt to create an artificial climate. Citizens evaluate the overall growth of the economy, the reduction of unemployment, the strengthening of the country’s international position, investments, the digitalization of the state.”
On the Constitutional Review
As regards the government’s proposals for the Constitutional Review, the Deputy Minister of Development stresses: “Major reforms require political courage and not petty party calculations. The Constitutional Review is not a conjunctural political process but a national necessity with a decades-long horizon. If the opposition chooses “no to everything”, this does not mean that the debate should be frozen. On the contrary, it is the responsibility of the political forces to take a serious stance towards changes that can unleash the country’s potential.”
Talking about the priorities regarding research and innovation in the coming period, Stavros Kalafatis underlines: “In the Ministry of Development we have set as a central strategic priority the formation of a new production model based on new knowledge. Our goal is for Greece to become a leader in the era of artificial intelligence and new technologies.”
As he points out, “we want research results to be transformed into products and services that help society and the economy. At the same time, we cultivate a culture of innovation that permeates horizontally through society, forming the core of a strong and competitive Greece. We are building today the infrastructure of tomorrow, giving our young people the opportunity to dream here, in our country, for our country.”
