Giannis Economou has called for outreach to conservative voters who have distanced themselves from New Democracy.
The political need for the party to re-attract its traditional supporters was underlined by Giannis Economou from the podium of the 16th Synedrio of the New Democracy. The MParliamentarian from Fthiotida sent a clear message to the leadership and executives, stressing that “our party, New Democracy, must meet again with the conservative parts of our social and electoral base that have distanced themselves, but have not definitively turned their backs on us”.
Giannis Economou said that “our conservative base is indispensable. Reconnecting with them will expand the party’s boundaries, because today the boundaries of the party are larger than the party’s boundaries. And this reconnection in addition to being necessary is also entirely possible. Because our ties with this world are strong and unbreakable.”
According to Mr. Economou, “New Democracy is the matrix of the Greek center-right. The centre-right that historically has always raised a barrier to the patriotic right-wing extremists, that has effectively confronted the irresponsibility of the Left, that has acted as a barrier against the defective realism of the so-called radical centre, which without a value-based background turns into cynicism.”
