The Ministry of Health is introducing strict restrictions on the purchase purchase of cannabis to protect adults.
A radical changes to the marketing regime for hemp preparations are being made by government, with Adonis Georgiadis announcing immediate interventions.
Talking to Star TV station, the Health Minister made it clear that “from next week all cannabis products must be withdrawn from the kiosks and mini-markets“, stressing that the relevant legislation will be submitted to Parliament without delay.
This new intervention is rooted in the bill “Restructuring of the Innovation Fund – Patient access to new medicines and treatments… and other provisions“, which was passed on Friday by the plenary session of the Parliament.
The new framework puts a definitive stop to the retail sale of cannabis and related cannabis from premiums, mini-markets and vending machines, while also establishing a special Departmental Cannabis Product Control Registry at the Ministry of Health for full oversight of the supply chain.
The authorities’ mobilization was deemed necessary after a chain of incidents where underage students consumed dangerous preparations such as gel and vaporizing oils.
Mr Georgiades asserted that there must be an “end to the rampant” uncontrolled disposal of these substances.
Finally, it was clarified that pharmaceutical cannabis will continue to be available strictly and only under medical prescription, excluding any possibility of its administration through private online websites.
