The unveiling of the bust of the hero Lieutenant Kostas Iliakis, in Chania, twenty years after his unexpected loss, spread emotion.

Twenty years after the loss of Captain Kostas Iliakis, the unveiling ceremony was held today in Chania. His memory was honoured by the municipalities of Chania and Karpathos and the General Staff of the Air Force.

Captain Kostas Eliakis was lost in the battle over Karpathos in 2006, when the F-16 piloted by Captain Eliakis was rammed by a Turkish fighter that was making dangerous maneuvers to protect a Turkish RF-4, which was trying to photograph S-300 anti-aircraft batteries.

The ceremony was held at noon today, attended by his children and siblings, where his bust was unveiled.

Also in attendance were the mayor of Chania Panagiotis Simandirakis, the mayor of Karpathos Michael Fellouzis, the chief of the Air Force General Staff Demosthenes Grigoriadis, the member of the New Democracy Sevi Voloudaki and representatives of organizations.
