The unveiling of the bust of the hero Lieutenant Kostas Iliakis, in Chania, twenty years after his unexpected loss, spread emotion.
Twenty years after the loss of Captain Kostas Iliakis, the unveiling ceremony was held today in Chania. His memory was honoured by the municipalities of Chania and Karpathos and the General Staff of the Air Force.
Captain Kostas Eliakis was lost in the battle over Karpathos in 2006, when the F-16 piloted by Captain Eliakis was rammed by a Turkish fighter that was making dangerous maneuvers to protect a Turkish RF-4, which was trying to photograph S-300 anti-aircraft batteries.
The ceremony took place at noon today, attended by his children and siblings, where his bust was unveiled.
Present was the Deputy Minister of State for Immigration and AsylumSevi Voloudaki, the mayor of Chania Panagiotis Simandirakis, the mayor of Karpathos Michael Fellouzis, the Chief of the General Staff of the Air Force Demosthenes Grigoriadis, and representatives of institutions.
