A further 1,000 additional jobs for people with disabilities are being created in local authorities.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is moving ahead with a new recruitment of 1,000 additional unemployed persons with disabilities (PWD) in Local Authorities of the first and second degree with the aim of increasing the employability of unemployed persons with disabilities and to address discrimination in the employment market.

It is noted that this is the first time that the programme is extended to Bottom Local Authorities.

It is worth noting that a total of 3,000 jobs have been created for this purpose.

Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameos said: “In line with the ongoing effort to combat unemployment, we are supporting individual social groups that have greater difficulties in penetrating the labour market and creating 1,000 additional jobs by strengthening the employment programme for people with disabilities in local government organisations across the country. Equal access to employment opportunities makes a significant contribution to promoting social inclusion and real equality. At the same time, we have strengthened Local Authorities with a total of 3,000 employees since the start of the programme, thus contributing to better staffing. We will continue our relentless efforts to provide equal opportunities for all in the labour market.”
