The Maria Syrengela has launched a fierce attack against Alexis Tsipras, recalling the days of his administration and highlighting the political superiority of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The political past of Alexis Tsipras and his attempt to present a renewed political identity was referred to by New Democracy MP Maria Syrengela, harshly criticising the former prime minister’s choices.

Syrengela attempted to make a clear comparison between the government’s strategy and the practices of 2015-2019, stressing the consistency of the current leadership. “Mitsotakis came with a truth deal. He did not come with an agreement that ‘I will tear up memoranda’ and then he brought a referendum which divided the country. Then, the no became a yes, we almost left the euro. All this did not happen 20 years ago,” she noted.

Continuing her criticism, the New Democracy MP focused on the unfamiliarity of Mr Tsipras’ new party, accusing him of political regression and an attempt to rewrite the history of his own government. As he pointed out, “we see that there is a party that is taking us back 80 years, in terms of its name. But at the same time, it wants to rebrand itself, as if it has never governed before, when it governed 10 years ago and brought the country to disaster.”

Concluding her statement, Maria Syrengela extended her comment to the entire opposition, noting that: “We don’t see on the side of the opposition, a person who can oppose Mitsotakis.”
