Tassos Gaitanis has launched a fierce attack against opposition parties, recalling a recent court conviction for illegal subsidies and accusing them of political toxicity.
The government’s strong criticism of the opposition over the management of agricultural subsidies was met with harsh language by Tasos Gaitanis, an executive and former member of parliament of New Democracy.
Gaitanis chose to highlight the time frame of the breaches that recently led to the judiciary in order to refute the narratives of his political opponents about the government’s responsibility in the current period. As he said, “two weeks ago, a court delivered a judgment and convicted 13 people for illegal subsidies in 2016-2018. Was the New Democracy party in power?”.
The New Democracy leader expressed his strong displeasure at the harsh insults hurled by members of PASOK and Syriza in recent times. He pointed out that the evidence from the judiciary exposes those who were quick to jump to conclusions, noting that he is making these clarifications “as a response to all those who unabashedly – PASOKs, SYRIZAs – talk about a blue criminal organization“.
At the same time, Gaitanis focused on the rhetoric of Charilaou Trikoupis, accusing it of corrupting itself in practices that refer to earlier periods of political acrimony. “Unfortunately, PASOK is proving to be as toxic as SYRIZA,” he stressed.
Concluding his intervention, Tasos Gaitanis did not fail to comment on the internal situation in SYRIZA, arguing that the party remains trapped in the past. He concluded by stating that “SYRIZA is politicking like a surplus of the Tsipras period“.
