The full statement

The Athens Administrative Court of Appeal unequivocally condemns last night’s attack on the premises of the Court by a group of unidentified persons with masked features.

The perpetrators caused extensive damage to the main entrance of the building, breaking glass panes with a sledgehammer and hurling paint at the exterior. No injuries were caused by the attack, but the damage to the property is considerable and the necessary procedures have already been initiated to repair it.

The three-member Board of Directors of the Athens Administrative Court of Appeal is currently cooperating with the competent authorities to investigate the incident and identify the perpetrators.

This attack – as well as similar attacks in the past targeting the Athens Administrative Courts – constitutes a direct insult against Justice and the institutions of the Rule of Law. Such actions neither intimidate nor suspend the work of the Judiciary, which continues its mission unhindered, with independence and commitment to legality.

We call on all citizens to respect the institutions and contribute to ensuring their smooth functioning by isolating those who, through acts of violence, influenced by the toxic climate towards the judiciary, aim to destabilize it. Respect for the independence and security of the judiciary is respect for democracy itself.
