The MVP award for this year’s Euroleague regular season is named after Sasha Vezenkov!
The Olympiacosos superstar performed a tremendous regular season with 19.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 turnovers and 23.1 PIR per 28’22” of play in 34 games, starting all of them as a starter.
The Piraeus forward garnered the majority of votes from team captains, coaches (70% overall), media (20%) and fans (10%), with Zalgiris’ Sylvain Francisco taking second place and Hapoel Tel Aviv’s Elaiza Bryant taking third.
Thus, after winning the Alphonso Ford Trophy by being the top scorer in the competition, but also leading in the ratings, Vezenkov wins the Euroleague MVP award for the second time in his career after the 2022/23 season.
This puts him in a particularly tight group as he became only the 2nd player to be voted MVP in two different seasons. The first to do so was Anthony Parker in the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons.
In fact, the award remains on … Greek soil after Panathinaikos guard Kendrick Nunn claimed it last season. In the past, two other Olympiacos players have won the Most Valuable Player award and they are Milos Teodosic and Vassilis Spanoulis.
