The weather picture changes significantly from Monday (11/5) with warm air masses moving from North Africa to Greece gradually raising temperatures across the country.

According to the latest forecast data fromEMS, the next three days will be more like early summer, with the peak of the heat expected on Tuesday.

The highest temperatures will be recorded mainly in Thessaly, in eastern Peloponnese, in Crete and in closed lowland areas of the mainland. In Larissa and in Heraklion the thermometer may even reach 33°C, while very high values are expected in the Argolic plain.

In Attica, the temperature will gradually rise from Monday, with the mercury approaching 30 to 31 degrees in central Athens by Tuesday. The sense of discomfort will be more pronounced due to the presence of African dust in the atmosphere.

At the same time, winds will shift to south and southwest, favoring the transport of dust mainly towards southern Greece and Crete. In the seas will blow up to 6 Beaufort, while locally in the Aegean Sea gusts may even reach 7 Beaufort.

However, there will be no shortage of local showers, mainly on Monday and Tuesday, in areas of the north and west of the country, but the general picture of the warm invasion will not be substantially affected.

Giannis Kallianos, in a post about the weather in the coming days, notes that the hottest day will be Tuesday.

“Temperatures are gradually rising from today and from tomorrow, Monday 11 May, we will see even higher temperatures in most areas of the country. The peak of this mild warm spell is expected on Tuesday 12 May, with the maximum temperatures shown in the table – and within the red box – being recorded in the country’s largest cities and Argos, an area likely to see the highest temperatures in the Argolic plain.”

He clarifies, however, that this is a normal warm change for the season.

“This is a mild warm invasion, perfectly normal for the season, which will raise temperatures by about 4-5°C above average climatic values. The hottest day looks set to be Tuesday, when the mercury will reach as high as 32-33°C in parts of the eastern mainland, especially in closed plains and heat-prone areas.”
