The Greek citizen, who was aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius, is expected to return today to Greece with a special operation organised by the Greek and Dutch authorities.
According to the Health Ministry’s announcement, he will be transported first by a Dutch aircraft to Eindhoven airport and then by a special flight of the Foreign Air Force to the military airport of Elefsina.
From there he will be picked up by an ambulance of EKAB, in order to be transferred to the University General Hospital “Attikon”, where a specially designed negative pressure chamber has already been prepared. The passenger will be put on mandatory quarantine for 45 days, as per health protocols.
He remains asymptomatic and is reportedly in good health. However, authorities are implementing strict precautionary measures due to the nature of the virus and international health guidelines.
The special repatriation flight will carry a ECAB physician, a paramedic rescuer and a nurse, but also the chairman of the scientific board of the EODY, Theodoros Vasilakopoulos.
At the same time, the major operation to disembark the ship’s passengers in Tenerife continues. According to SkyNews, the first flight carrying Spanish passengers has already departed for Madrid, followed by flights to France, Canada, the Netherlands, the Netherlands, the UK, Turkey, Ireland and the US.
After the evacuation was completed, the operator of the MV Hondius announced that the cruise ship will refuel in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, and then head to the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The voyage is expected to take about five days and only essential crew members will remain on board.
